"They were very close to being killed," said assistant chief of operations. "That rattled everyone on the scene." He described the explosion as a "huge concussion" that tore off parts of the roof and split the walls of the 60,000-square-foot plant. "It blew the front off the building. It blew the overhead doors out where (firefighters) were standing, blew them out of the building, and they got banged up a bit," he said.
None of the workers was inside the building at the time.
"It’s just one of those things that every time you go into a fire… especially in a business, you don’t know what’s on other side."
Damage is estimated at $15 million and the cause remains under investigation.
And then............
A man, 64, is facing impaired driving charges after a collision Monday night which injured a paramedic working at the scene of another collision, police said. The paramedic was treated at hospital for minor injuries and released.
Emergency personnel responded to a collision just before 6 p.m. on Monday. While paramedics were treating the injured, a pick-up truck northbound on Stafford struck the rear of one of the vehicles involved in the original collision, causing it to move forward and strike one of the paramedics.
Police said the 64-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm, and driving over .08. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
The president of the union that represents paramedics said the incident highlights the need for motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed around emergency vehicles. "We’re obviously pleased that one of our brothers out on the road didn’t sustain more serious injuries and it looks like he’s going to be alright, but it does give you pause to think about what could have happened,"
"This kind of thing can and should be avoidable if people use caution and common sense."

Here's a thought - how 'bout if people didn't drink and drive..... In his defense, I know it's hard to see us with all the lights flashing around (sarcasm).
Common sense ain't so common.

Oh wow. So very glad the injuries sustained in both incidents were not more serious!
Yikes!! Glad it wasn't worse, but this shouldn't happen. Sadly, you know what they say, you can't fix stupid. :(
